Flooring Waste Allowance Explained
Waste covers cuts, offcuts and layout losses. Keep it separate from measured floor area so the assumption stays visible.
Formula
Purchase area = net area × (1 + waste rate)For 20 m² of net area and a 10% allowance, purchase area is 22 m².
Why the percentage varies
Room shape, product dimensions, installation direction, pattern matching and the number of cuts can change the extra material required. Use a project-appropriate allowance rather than assuming one percentage is universal.
